Obituary of Sonja J Ostlund

Sonja J. (Lovgren) Ostlund, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, April 4th. She was a lifelong resident of Woburn and the wife of the late Harry Bror Ostlund of Sweden, who died in June of 1986. Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Lovgren, and the late Elin (Olson) Lovgren Nord, both of whom were born in Sweden. Sonja graduated with Honors from Woburn High School's Class of 1951. She was Class Treasurer as well as the "Valedictorian". She continued to uphold her position as Treasurer and worked passionately in assisting with every Class Reunion. During High School Sonja worked part-time at Buel Machine Company in Woburn and upon her graduation gained full-time employment as Bookkeeper for the next twenty-five years until the company relocated. She then went to work for Custom Machine in Woburn as the "Metal Buyer" and remained there until her retirement at age 65. Sonja only had two jobs here entire full-time working career which displayed her dedication and diligent work ethic. Everyone loved Sonja as she was a beautiful person inside and out. Those who were fortunate to have known her were blessed with her kindness, compassion, sincerety and selflessness. She had a sweet demeanor and was always concerned of others well being. Sonja loved to bake and would always make sure her guests were attended to. In here early years, Sonja was very active in The Vikings Lodge and the (SFofA) Scandanavian Fraternity of America with her late husband, Harry, whom at one time was the Supreme President. They traveled extensively throughout the U.S. for conventions accompanied by their children, Kenny and Kris. Sonja was very active in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn and served as Treasurer of the Lady's Group for many years. Sonja loved to attend the Sunday services and would help out when she could. She loved all her grandchildren and was a big part of their lives. Celebrating birthdays was always an enjoyable event. Sonja loved being on a bowling league with her friends, playing cards with her cousins and traveling particularly to Florida and visiting relatives in Sweden. Her Swedish heritage was very important to her. To say that Sonja will be missed is an understatement. She enriched everyone's lives that knew her and if we can all take a part of her character we will all be better people for it. Sonja is survived by one son, Kenneth Ostlund and his wife Janet (Hartigan) of Burlington, and one daughter, Kristina "Kris" Castine of Woburn.She is also lovingly survived by one granddaughter, Allison (Castine) Gulino and her husband, Christopher Gulino of Woburn, and five grandsons, Michael Ostlund of Allentown NH, Kevin Ostlund of Raleigh NC, Eric Ostlund and his wife, Kerriann (MacDonald) of Billerica, Derek Ostlund of Burlington and Ryan Ostlund of Burlington, one neice, Joann (Lovgren) Petrovich, of East Bethany, NY, and her lifelong friend, Roy Johnson of Billerica. Sonja was preceded in death by her one brother, Oscar "Uncle-Swede" Lovgren and his wife, the late Mildred "Auntie-Millie" (Schultz) of Woburn. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, services will be private.
