Obituary of Eligio James
Eligio James, of Somerville, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center on Sunday, May 10. He was 70 years of age.
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, he was the son of Serita Vanterpool James, and the late Aubrey James. Eligio pitched in Minor league baseball for the Houston Astros and eventually moved to the US. After retiring from baseball Eligio worked at MPI in Winchester for more than 30 years.
Eligio loved to sing and dance, and he also enjoyed cooking. He had a great sense of humor, and was always cracking jokes. Most of all, he was a devoted and loving father and grandfather.
Eligio is survived by his longtime companion and partner Carol Levesque; his mother, Serita Vanterpool James; and his daughters Denise James, Erika Winchester and her husband Kenneth, Elisha James, and Janelle James. He is also survived by his sisters Marcella James, Juddy James, and Gloria James; and his three grandchildren, Ayanna Colon, Samara Winchester, and Kenneth Winchester. He is further survived by his nephew and nieces, cousins, and many friends. Eligio was preceded in death by his sister, the late Casilda James; his brother, the late Cesar James; and his father, the late Aubrey James.
