Michael McDevitt

Obituary of Michael Charles McDevitt

Michael Charles McDevitt, of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, July 12. He was 62 years of age. Michael was Born in Woburn on September 20, 1957 to loving parents Michael and Arlene (Beevers) McDevitt. He was raised on the West side of Woburn, joined shortly by sisters Mary and Terry, and later Melissa where they made lots of wonderful memories. The family often enjoyed weekends at Salisbury Beach with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. Michael attended Woburn Public Schools, graduating from Woburn Memorial High School in 1975. Growing up, he played Woburn Youth sports and especially loved football, serving as center on the 1974-1975 Woburn High Football team. After high school, he joined his father in the family business of land clearing and wood trucking where he became a chainsaw and heavy equipment operator. He worked in this industry most of his life both on his own and for other companies and made many great friends. He maintained a CDL truck license and drove several trucks over the years most recently for Commonwealth Scaffold. He also had his own firewood delivery business for over 40 years with many loyal customers and liked having the help of his nephews. In 1992, Michael married Julie and they settled in his family home. They enjoyed 28 years of marriage and lots of good times. They both liked to travel and took some great trips including to California, some National Parks and more. One of their favorite places to go was mid-coastal Maine and they made many repeat visits over the years. The important thing was time spent together, and sometimes that was a Sunday drive to Concord or to visit friends. Michael was at his happiest when he could get together with family and friends for a party, or as he called it a “time.” Whether, it was holidays, birthday parties, or his annual pig roast or he loved when everyone could be together and have good food, plenty of drinks, and he could tell a story (or 2, or 3) about the good old days. Michael was one of a kind – a reliable, hardworking man as well as a quiet, patient, gentle soul who touched the lives of everyone who had the good fortune to meet him. He will be greatly missed by all. Michael is survived by his wife of 28 years Julie; his step-son Jay Simonson of Somerville; his sister Mary Larson and brother-in-law Kelly Larson of Salisbury; his sister Terry Walsh of Lynn, his sister Melissa Roderick and brother-in-law Erick Roderick of Woburn. He is also survived by his nephews Michael, Shane and Dennis Walsh of Woburn and Kelly Larson of Hampton Falls, NH and Zach Roderick of Woburn; and his niece Megan Roderick of Woburn. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, the late Michael Alfred McDevitt and the late Arlene (Beevers) McDevitt and nieces, the late Jenna Walsh and the late Colleen Larson. Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Thursday, July 16 from 4-8 pm.
