Obituary of William E Heptig
William E. “Bill” Heptig, 68, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, October 25. He was the loving husband of Donna M. (Taylor) Heptig.
Born in Winchester, Bill grew up in Arlington Heights. He was the son of Ruth (Lawson) Heptig of Canton, and the late C. Edward Heptig.
Bill was a lifelong sports fan, and he was a skilled hockey player in his younger years. He continued playing hockey in men’s leagues in Winchester and Arlington well into his 40’s. Bill also enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and more recently playing golf with family and friends. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time at home with family which included his many dogs.
Bill was a longtime employee of Mahoney’s Garden Center in Winchester MA. Bill was the buyer and sales manager, of outdoor trees and shrubs, for Mahoney’s seven stores.
In addition to his wife Donna, and his mother Ruth; Bill is survived by his brother and sister, Robert Heptig of Wells, Maine, and Carol Ciffolillo of Canton and her late husband Jeff; and nine nieces and nephews, Augustus and Leo Heptig, Christian and Colby Ciffolillo, Nicholas Zaloga and family, Anna and Casey Flynn, Krysta Hostetler and family, and Rachel Shue and family. Bill is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, James Taylor and his wife Nancy, Jeffrey Taylor; Maureen Flynn and her husband Cornelius, and Anthony Zaloga and his wife the late Colleen; and his mother-in-law, Natalie Taylor, and was preceded in death by his father-in-law, the late Donald Taylor.
A graveside service will be held at the Wildwood Cemetery, 34 Palmer St., Winchester, on Saturday, October 31 at 11:00 am. Per the current Covid-19 restrictions, we kindly ask that that everyone in attendance wear a face covering, and observe social distancing guidelines at all times.
