Obituary of Dorothy Jane Monson

Dorothy Jane (Schacht) Monson of Woburn, formerly of Winchester, and Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, passed away on October 30th, 2020. She was 89 years of age. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Delbert, and the late Helen Schacht. Dorothy later moved to Stoneham, Mass. and graduated from Stoneham High School. Dorothy attended Fisher Junior College and upon graduation, was employed as the secretary to the college president, Sanford Fisher. Ultimately, she gave up her career to dedicate her life to her children and her grandchildren. She was a longtime resident of Winchester, Mass. and Gilmanton Iron Works, NH. For the past four years, Dorothy, also known as “Dottie” lived at New Horizons at Choate in Woburn, Mass. where she made cherished friendships. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the EnKa Society in Winchester, Mass. as well as a member of the Friends of Winchester Hospital. She enjoyed nature and being outdoors, which inspired her love of painting throughout her life. To those who knew her well, Dorothy will be remembered as kind and caring with a wry sense of humor and a passionate devotion to her family. She will also be remembered for her spectacular homemade bread. Dottie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy A. Monson. Together they shared fifty years of marriage. She is survived by her son Peter Monson and his wife Karen of Methuen, Mass., her daughter Anita Monson of Stoneham, Mass., her son Philip Monson and his wife Cindy of Stoneham, Mass., her son Douglas Monson of Charlton, Mass., and her daughter Andrea (Monson) Dellorusso and her husband Eric of Laguna Niguel, CA. Besides her children, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren Dorothy is survived by her sister Anne Sandgren of Woburn, Mass., and her brother William Schacht of Beverly, Mass. and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is planning a private graveside service at Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester.
