Obituary of Richard P. Gariepy
Richard Paul Gariepy of Woburn, passed away at his home after a lengthy time of declining health on September 6, 2024, at the age of 79.
He was the beloved husband of Ruth Lafayette-Gariepy and doting father of Nicole Marley and her husband Richard Marley. Richard was born on April 9, 1945, in Haverhill, MA., one of nine children of the late Amedee and Thelma (Rowell) Gariepy.
Richard attended Haverhill Trade School and served in the National Guard from 1965 until 1971. Richard worked for many years at Foss Manufacturing Company in Haverhill, MA. before moving to Woburn. After moving to Woburn, he worked for Apollo Security until his retirement.
In retirement, Richard loved to sit on his front porch where he was greeted by family, friends, neighbors, and anyone walking their dog. Richard loved the companionship of his dogs Major, then Princess, and was a devoted supporter of the MSPCA.
Richard also loved Karaoke. He enjoyed singing songs from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. He enjoyed going to Karaoke at Polcari’s in East Woburn, where he enjoyed the spotlight singing his favorite songs. We thank the Polcari staff for all the special attention they gave to Richard on Karaoke Night.
Richard loved his sports, baseball, basketball, and football. Richard played baseball and basketball throughout his youth and continued playing into the over-forty leagues in Haverhill. Because of his love for sports, Richard was an avid sports trivia competitor. Countless hours were spent with Glen and Laura Turgiss to see who really knew more facts about sports.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ruth Lafayette-Gariepy and daughter Nicole Marley and her husband, Richard Marley, all of Woburn. Richard was the brother of Florence LaRochelle of Haverhill, MA., Robert Gariepy and his wife, Jeanne, of Atkinson, NH, Albert Gariepy and his late wife Jane, of Sandown, NH, and Carol Razza and her late husband, Anthony, of E. Hampstead, NH, and the late Wallace, Norman, Russell Gariepy and the late Lillian Peltier. Richard is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Richard took countless family trips to Disneyworld, Hershey PA., Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Story Land, Clarke’s Trading Post, and Washington, D.C. He enjoyed sharing every minute of this special time traveling with his wife and daughter.
Richard was a kind, quiet man who loved his family and friends and will be remembered for his strength during his lengthy illness. We thank the Gariepy and Lafayette Families for their continued love, support, and kindness to Richard during his lengthy illness.
