Obituary of Dorothy A. MacLeod

Dorothy A. MacLeod, 89, passed away after a short illness on Thursday evening, May 23, 2024, nine days short of celebrating her 90th birthday on June 1st. Born and raised in Burlington, she was the daughter of the late Robert, and the late Alice (Bustead) Carpenter. Dorothy was a graduate of the Burlington school system where she lived until coming to Woburn when she married Lawrence. Dorothy worked for many years at Zayre and Ames department stores. The job she was most proud of was being the mother of seven children. Dorothy was an active and faithful member of the Montvale Congregational Church in East Woburn. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Lawrence “Dimpy” MacLeod, who died in 2002. She is survived by her children Arlene Thibeault and her husband Fred, Kathleen Lundgren and her husband Timothy, Maureen Webster and her husband William, Laurene Gonsalves and her husband Robert, Darlene Murray and her husband Brian, Lawrence MacLeod Jr. and his wife Dianne; all of Woburn; and the late Carlene Booker and her late husband Charles of Center Barnstead, NH. She was the sister of Kenneth Carpenter of Maine, the late Marian Carpenter, the late Barbara Anderson, the late Arthur Carpenter, the late Robert Carpenter and his wife Joyce Carpenter of Burlington, and the late Joan Carpenter. Dorothy was the proud “Nana” to 16 grandchildren and “Nana-Nana” to 23 great-grandchildren. Dorothy loved being surrounded by family whether it was Sundays at her house or a birthday party for one of her 39 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting hats, mittens, and Christmas stockings for her family and friends, sitting on the porch enjoying a nice summer day, coffee with the “girls” and going on day trips to Woodman’s for her seafood fix. Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Tuesday, May 28 from 4:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Montvale Congregational Church, 36 Orange St. (cor. of Central St.) Woburn on Wednesday, May 29 at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at the Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn. Contributions in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Montvale Congregational Church, P.O. Box 76, Woburn, MA 01801
