Obituary of Beverly Ruth Mahoney
Beverly Ruth (Young) Mahoney passed away peacefully with her children by her side on February 13, 2024, from complications related to Lewy Body dementia. She was a dedicated, loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Beverly was born to Alexander and Ethel Young on October 21, 1937, in Arlington, Massachusetts. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1955. She was a talented artist, and after completing several rigorous tests, she was accepted to the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. However, she chose not to attend and instead took a nine-week tour throughout Europe with her girlfriends when she was 19. This was unusual at the time, and her adventure, which started on the Queen Mary, was written about in the Arlington newspaper. Beverly considered this to be her education.
Beverly was a dental assistant for many years to several dentists in Arlington. She was eventually introduced to the love of her life, Jim Mahoney, through her sister's husband who was Jim’s navy buddy on the USS Missouri during WWII.
Known for her delicious homemade recipes and enthusiastic eye for decorating, Beverly created a happy and inviting home where everyone felt welcome. Even in the worst of situations, she always had a joke to lighten the mood and said that laughter could get her through any hard time. She wouldn't let anyone get past her without making them smile or telling them how proud she was of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister Phyllis Flight of Woburn, her son Mark Mahoney of Lowell, her daughter Laurel Francoeur and her husband Joseph of Woburn, and her grandchildren Dylan Mahoney and Jeremy Francoeur.
A funeral ceremony celebrating Beverly’s life will be held at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Road, Woburn on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11:00 am. An hour of visitation will take place at the funeral home, prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial will be at the Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn.
