Obituary of Barbara V. Ridley

Barbara (Martin) Ridley, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away at her home on Wednesday morning, December 21st at the age of 98. She was the daughter of the late Donald W. Martin, Sr., and Lolita Mae Martin of Woburn. She was the beloved wife of her late husbands, Frederick S. Gibson and Robert G. Ridley. Barbara worked for many years as a Medical Secretary in the Emergency Room at the former Choate Hospital in Woburn where she made many longtime friends who she has kept in touch with over the years. Following the closing of the Choate, she joined Dr. Arthur Veno’s practice and remained there until she retired. In her free time Barbara always enjoyed time spent each summer at Hampton Beach, NH and meeting up with her fellow Woburn friends there. When not up north she enjoyed her yearly trips to all areas of Cape Cod. She would hit every Christmas Tree Shop she could find. Barbara resided at the Place Lane Condominiums for over 35 years. She always took pleasure in the activities that were happening there and was readily available to lend a helping hand with their preparations. When Barbara was not at work or at home, you could always find her at the Woburn Senior Center. She was a longtime member of the WSC and was also elected to sit on the Board. If there was anything going on at the Center you could bet she would be there. Barbara is survived by daughters, Beverly Nicoloro of Sandwich and Valerie Arsenault of California and son, Dennis Gibson of Florida. She was also predeceased by her son, Robert Gibson of Billerica. She is survived by her dear sister, Bonnie Martin Winson of Woburn and predeceased by her sisters Beverly Harkins of Woburn; Phyllis Ganley of Burlington; Norma Macaluso of Woburn and a brother, Donald W. Martin, Jr. of Woburn. Barbara is also survived by her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. All Arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Woburn Senior Center, 144 School St., Woburn, MA 01801. Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn.
