Obituary of Stanley Alfred Sandgren

Stanley Sandgren of Woburn passed away peacefully on June 4, 2022 at the age of 95. Born in Medford, MA on February 15, 1927, he lived in Burlington with his parents, the late Alfred Sandgren, and the late Astrid E. M. (Liljegren) Sandgren, his sister the late Edith (Sandgren McIntire) Peterson, and his brother the late Alvan Sandgren. Stanley joined the United States Naval Air Service during WWII at the age of 17. He enlisted early, before graduation with his father’s permission. After being discharged, Stanley worked as a carpenter with Sune Franson of Woburn, from whom he eventually took over the construction business upon the retirement of Mr. Franson. Stanley was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, where he held many positions over the years. He was one of the of the original members of the Board of Trustees of the Lutheran Camp Calumet, Freedom, NH. Stanley married his beloved Anne (Schacht) in 1952, and they were married for 69 years. They enjoyed R.V. travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Alaska. In addition to his wife Anne, Stanley is survived by two sons, Dana Sandgren and his wife Denise of Woburn, Paul Sandgren and his wife Michele of Methuen; one daughter, Luanne (Sandgren) Hill and her husband James of Woburn, and he was preceded in death by one son, the late Gary Sandgren. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lisa (Sandgren) Weinberg and her husband Gabriel, Jeffrey Sandgren and his wife Melissa, Ryan Hill, Devin Hill, and Nicholas Sandgren; and one great-grandchild, Samuel Weinberg. A funeral service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 60 Forest Park Rd., Woburn on Thursday, June 9, at 11:00 am. An hour of visitation will be held at the church on Thursday morning, prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
