Obituary of Sarah “Ruby” Stevenson

Sarah “Ruby” Stevenson of Dracut, formerly of Woburn, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2021. She was 90 years of age. She was born Sarah Ann Rebecca Morrow in Derry, Ireland to the late George & Rebecca (McCrea) Morrow; she was the beloved wife of the late John A. Stevenson. She has always been known to all who love her as “Ruby.” Ruby grew up and attended school in the Derrys. She came over to America on the Queen Elizabeth at a young age with her brothers and stayed with her family in Woburn, MA. Ruby worked in Boston in an insurance company for many years until she caught the eye of a young, handsome Irishman John A. Stevenson. Ruby and John were married and had 5 beautiful children together. They took many trips to Hampton Beach and always enjoyed hosting holidays and celebrations at their home on Campbell Street. All who gathered there will tell you how Ruby made every holiday special, and her kitchen was always filled with the warmth and love she gave to everyone who knew her. Ruby loved to cook, make crafts, and quilting. She had a strong faith and enjoyed many, many years as a parishioner at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Woburn. She was always involved with the Church Fair and would spend months preparing many handmade items to sell including her beautiful crafts and her homemade Irish bread. Ruby worked for many years providing for her family, but being a mom, grandmother, and making sure she provided a welcoming home, was what was most important to her. Her children and grandchildren greatly admired her strength over the years dealing with the many health issues she had to battle. She did it all with grace and said her faith in God would get her through. She enjoyed traveling and loved to visit Sanibel Island and York, Maine with her family and grandchildren. Ruby was the beloved wife of the late John A. Stevenson; loving mother of Al Stevenson, Debbie Redmond and her husband Mark of Princeton, Lisa Mackay and her husband Scott of Dracut, Kerry Parrella and her husband A.J. of Billerica, and the late Drew Stevenson. Loving “Nana” to Kristle Sochovka, Scott & Luke Redmond. Drew, Ryan and Bret Mackay, and A.J. Parrella; and adoring “Great Grandmother” to Nick, Hailey, and Brooke Sochovka. She was the dear sister to the late Albert Morrow & his wife Bertha of Somerville, the late Mabel Harrison & her husband Hib of Woburn, the late Sheila Mogauro and her husband Bill of Woburn, the late Jack Morrow and his wife Pearl of Ireland, and the late Herbie Morrow of Woburn. Dear sister-in-law to Laura Morrow of Woburn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. All services will be private.
