Obituary of Julie E. McDevitt

Julie Ellen McDevitt of Woburn died Thursday August 27, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Edmond and Evelyn Doucette. Julie was born in Beverly and raised in Salem and was one of five siblings.

Although her life was ultimately shortened by Parkinson’s disease, she lived a full and meaningful life on her own terms, embracing each day and living it exactly as she wished.

Julie was driven by a lifelong passion for creating, crafting, and transforming the things she found into something beautiful and new. She will be remembered for the many treasures she lovingly made and shared with friends and family—from exquisite sea glass and beaded jewelry to beautifully refurbished furniture, hand-sewn garments, and small garden sculptures. Through her creativity, Julie brought beauty and joy to those around her, leaving behind not only the things she made, but the love and thoughtfulness placed into each one.

She found joy in many of life’s simple pleasures and had a wide range of interests and passions. She loved sewing, gardening, nature, beach days, traveling, camping, baking, and animals (especially cats and rabbits). She delighted in surprising friends with flowers, taking long drives with the love of her life, Mike, and, most of all, spending time with the people she loved.

Family and friends were the most important things in her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt. Julie is predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Michael C. McDevitt of Woburn. She is survived by her son and their partner, Jayden Simonson and Kamryn Fontaine of Somerville; her sisters, Cheryl Winter and husband, Dave, of Peabody; Christine Hill (deceased) and husband, Jim, of Beverly; Laura Mackie (deceased) and husband, David, of Newburyport her brother, Joseph Doucette and wife, Debra Nelson-Doucette, of Newburyport; and her closest friends, Debbie, Anne, Kathy, Marcie, Deb, and Mary-Ellen. Julie is also survived by many nieces/nephews and their children whom she adored dearly.

Julie will be deeply missed by her family and friends and her beautiful spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be at the Arthur P Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd, Woburn, MA on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 9:00 to 11:00 am, followed by a graveside service at the Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem St., Woburn at 11:30 am.
