Obituary of Astrid N. Aradi

Astrid Nancy Moden Aradi, 83, of Groveland, MA, passed peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 20, 2026. Astrid was married to Michael G. Aradi, the love of her life, who passed in April 2023.

Born in Arlington, MA on February 25, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Carl H. Moden and Annie Linnea (Andersson) Moden. She was the youngest child, sister of the late Karl G. Moden and Robert Moden.

She is survived by nephews Karl Stephen Moden and his wife, Mary, of Burlington, MA; Scott D. Moden of Lexington, MA; and Brian C. Moden and his wife, Michelle, of Dinwiddie, VA.  She is also survived by her longtime friend, Martha Crook of Ohio, who was a devoted supporter of Astrid, particularly following the passing of her husband, Michael

Astrid graduated from Arlington High School in 1960. Following high school, she attended the Katherine Gibbs School, where she developed the skills that would serve her throughout her professional life. She worked at several educational institutions, including Harvard University and UMass, and was an accomplished typist who performed transcription work. She later worked as a real estate agent and generously volunteered her time at several medical facilities.

In the 1970s, Astrid met her future husband, Michael G. Aadi, at a jazz club in San Rafael, California. Their meeting began a lasting relationship, and the couple eventually returned to Massachusetts, where they were married on August 23, 1980.

She will be forever known as Auntie Astrid to the dozens of children in her extended family, including William, Laurel, Julia, Andrea, Leah, Sarah, Scottie, Kevin, Jayden, Aloura, Leo, Violet, Kylie, Lilah, Maisy, Harrison, Lorenda, Mason, Ele, Diane, Billy, Miguel, Alex, and Codi. She had a special knack for finding the most unique and thoughtful birthday and holiday gifts, bringing excitement and joy to all the children who were lucky enough to call her Auntie Astrid.

Astrid had a deep love and respect for animals, wildlife, and the natural world. She was an active donor and supporter of several local and national organizations dedicated to animal protection, wildlife conservation, and the preservation of nature, including the ASPCA, MSPCA-Angell, World Wildlife Fund, The Humane Society, The Nature Conservancy, and the National Audubon Society. Her compassion for animals and concern for the environment were an important part of who she was.

Astrid was incredibly proud of her Swedish heritage and celebrated it throughout her life. She enjoyed collecting Swedish treasures and sharing Swedish customs, traditions, and stories with family and friends. Her collection was more than a display of beautiful things; it was a meaningful connection to her heritage and a way of keeping those traditions alive.

She proudly displayed Swedish art, collectibles, and other treasured pieces throughout her home, creating a warm reflection of the culture and traditions she loved.

Astrid had several hobbies and interests that she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved making jewelry, especially creating pieces with beautiful stones and unique beads. Photography was another passion, particularly photographing nature and wildlife. She also enjoyed photographing her beloved pet cats and the many beautiful scenes she encountered on her travels.

Astrid had a special fondness for nature sanctuaries and York Beach and York Village in Maine. She loved visiting the beach, photographing the Nubble lighthouse, shoreline and surrounding scenery, and strolling through the charming gift shops in York Village. These visits gave her many opportunities to enjoy two things she loved dearly, photography and the beauty of nature.

Later in life, Astrid owned and operated antique consignment boutiques in Newburyport, Haverhill, MA, and Plaistow, NH. She loved arts and crafts and enjoyed the creativity, history, and character found in unique handmade and vintage pieces.

Funeral services will be held at at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service.  Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA
