Obituary of William J. Gavin, III

William Gavin III, of Woburn, born December 18, 1947, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026.  He was the son of the late William J. Gavin, Jr.; and the late Helen E. (Graham) Gavin.

Bill earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s degree in art history from Williams College. He lived in New York before returning to Boston, where he worked at the Boston Athenaeum. Following his father’s passing, Bill returned to Woburn to manage the family business, Gavin’s Market.

Bill is survived by his sister, Helen Ann (Gavin) McDonough, and her husband, William E. McDonough Jr.; his nieces, Meredith McDonough and Leah (McDonough) Furness, and her husband, Ryan D. Furness; and his grandniece and grandnephews, Kassidy Helen Morrissey, Gavin McDonough Furness, and Graham Drury Furness.

Private services have been held with his immediate family, as he wished.  Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn.
