Obituary of Jolyn M. Ek
Jolyn M. (O’Connor) Ek, 85, of Reading, formerly of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, June 8, 2025. She was the wife of the late Allan G. Ek.
Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, and raised in Woburn; she was the daughter of the late Joseph, and the late Madelyn (Carpenter) O’Connor. Jolyn was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 1957.
Jolyn was employed as a licensed social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and later at a private assisted living, retiring after 30 years of service. She moved from Woburn to Reading in 2008. She remained active until her passing, spending time with her friends. In her free time, Jolyn enjoyed painting and travelling, and spending time with her great-granddaughters.
In addition to her late husband Allan who passed away in 1983, Jolyn was preceded in death by two daughters, the late Allison Ek, and the late Pamela Ek; one grandson, the late Brian Robertson; and one sister, the late Pamela Freuh.
She is survived by two daughters, Kristina Barrera and her husband Eduardo of Haverhill, and Lisa Ek and her partner Paul Scibinico of Everett; two grandchildren, Michael Ek of Everett and Amanda Brown of Haverhill; and two great granddaughters, Makenna & Juniper Martin. She is also survived by one brother, Brian O’Connor and his wife Linda of Rhode Island; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be at the Arthur P. Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Friday, June 13 from 9:00-11:30 am, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 11:30 am. Burial will be private.
